The SMHFA 2-day course is a nationally recognised programme designed to help adults support others experiencing mental health problems. Suitable for anyone over 18, it’s ideal for workplaces, community organisations, or individuals looking to build a better understanding of mental health and how to respond to those in need.
Over two interactive days, participants learn how to recognise signs of mental health issues, offer initial help, and guide someone towards appropriate support. The course covers key topics including depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide, substance use, and crisis situations. Participants also develop practical skills in listening, supportive conversation, and mental health crisis response.
Delivered face-to-face by certified instructors, the course combines group discussion, activities, and real-life scenarios. On completion, attendees receive a certificate from Public Health Scotland and are recognised as Mental Health First Aiders.
This training helps build confidence, reduce stigma, and promote a mentally healthy and supportive environment.
